Basch often wandered. It had been so long since he had left his tomb, and had adventured, and had ended up meeting with a man called Cloud now and again as he journeyed in this world unfamiliar to them both. Deep down, he held hope that this man would make his way in this world without him needing to do more - for he was tired. Being both Man and Gigas, Basch had grown distant from Man once. And now his Princess was Queen, he hoped that he could do it again - so he would not suffer heartbreak of caring for people far too much.

That is, until he felt... something, echoing though his bones. His very soul. A feeling he had felt a long time ago, before he was Basch. It made him worry the smallest bit. And so, he had returned to where Cloud had been staying - his expression dire, hiding his true form behind his usual glamours. (He could use glamours to hide he was Basch - but why bother? This was the face fate had given him.) Rumours had spread, of strange beings. In the chaos and uncertainty, Basch could slip anywhere. Even if he could feel his glamours struggling to remain up, hearing the emotions of the Gigas he was one with whispering to him.

This place was so unfamiliar to Cloud. There was nothing even remotely similar to what he had known prior to his awakening here and even the people he met just didn't feel right. There was something different about them--something different from the people he'd once known; people that he could only remember in faint glimpses in his dreams. Their faces were lost to him and even their names were hard to come by. He just knew that once upon a time he had been with them. Had considered them family.

Here, in this place, the blonde had found himself reborn into the world, in a sense. There was a power lurking inside him that even he didn't understand and he had ignored the strange stirring he felt inside.

But then it had struck, hard and fast.

It had started as an itch he couldn't stop on his forehead, the blonde digging at it, trying to stop the irritation until blood trailed slowly down his face. A hard stone appeared from underneath the shredded skin--since his fingers had become more like claws without him realizing--and in the dark of his makeshift home it glowed softly. From there the pain had only gotten worse as his legs buckled underneath his weight--no, not buckled. They seemed to break under his weight drawing a pained cry out of Cloud as he hit the floor and tried to curl in on himself. It felt like the bones themselves were shifting around, resettling into a new position that he couldn't make sense of. He had half a mind to try and look but then his head started to ache; sounds become more deafening and it felt as though his very skull was about to split.

All he could do was lay there, muffled sobs that were more like weak growls escaping him as his body reformed itself, taking on the appearance of an almost rabbit-like creature, legs longer and broader now; more powerful for their purpose in jumping. His ears had shifted up on his head and stretched, bearing resemblance to a rabbit's as well though the fur on them was a pale blonde, almost matching his hair. A long tail had sprouted from his tailbone at some point, almost fox-like in it's appearance as it twitched absently on the ground. Unsteady breaths escaped Cloud as the pain finally started to subside but he didn't move. Couldn't move. His body ached far too badly.

Which is why Basch would find him lying there, torn flesh and blood staining the floor as the newly formed Carbuncle tried to get his bearings.

At first Cloud didn't react to the other's presence. He didn't fully realize that he wasn't alone anymore. It wasn't until the other was close, hovering over him and snarling that the blonde moved at all and it was his ears first. The long appendages twitched at the sound and the blonde's nose scrunched in response. It was loud. Too loud and he didn't like it.

Bright blue eyes cracked open before snapping wide as he realized that there was someone else there. Instincts took over and the blonde attempted to swing at the form hovering over him, back legs kicking out at the same time in a defensive manner.

It's the sheer size of the other that has Cloud freezing, almost petrified in momentary fear. Sure a Carbuncle was nothing to scoff at but Cloud had just been changed and his instincts were screaming at him to get away. To protect himself while his body recovered.

Except he couldn't get away.

He was pinned and that sent a whole new wave of fear through him. Fear that prompted the stone on his forehead to glow brightly for a moment before a shield formed and pushed upwards at the Gigas's body, trying to force him backwards.

Once the other was pushed back Cloud scrambled to his feet, crouched on all fours--so very rabbit--as his ears laid back and he bared his fangs.

But the other wasn't trying to attack him and that realization made him pause, the glow from the gem in his forehead fading as he tried to figure out what the other was playing at. The blue glow from his Labradorite-like stone was replaced with the glow of curative magic and the blonde flinched, prepared to dart--

Except it felt...nice. Warm. He could feel the ache in his limbs starting to fade and a shudder went through him as his heart stopped racing and he just..relaxed.

A good sign. At least for the moment.
